High-quality monofilament line in 80-pound (0.91mm) breaking strain - the perfect grade for use as a casting leader / rubbing leader / abrasion leader / top shot when casting heavy weights and large sinkers to 8 ounces surf fishing for sharks and rays.
 
This is the same mono leader that we've used on countless guided sessions for surf sharks and larger predators to over 500-pounds, often running 10 to 15 feet of the mono above one of our pulley rigs, Carolina rigs or any of our castable shark rigs. This ensures that, should a fish become wrapped up in the line as some sharks have a tendency to do, the rough skin won't cut through the abrasion-resistant mono.
 
A mono leader also helps when landing large fish in the surf or off a pier or jetty and takes the force of a cast when rigged with a big sinker and bait. We won't fish without such a leader above the rig and if you're running straight braid to the rig, consider adding a mono leader like this to avoid fish and tackle losses.
 
Attach to braided main line with an FG or Crazy Alberto knot, and use a Palomar or Uni knot to the swivel of any of our ready-tied surf shark fishing rigs that require a large sinker.
